Like many things in 2020, the CrossFit Games changed in unprecedented ways. For the first time in history, the competition was not held in person, with athletes competing side-by-side.
Instead they were done social distance style, with athletes competing in boxes all around the world. 60 athletes in 16 countries to be exact…all trying to earn the right to compete in person in Northern California for Stage 2.
Judges were sent out to measure distances and weigh equipment, keeping it fair for everyone. Workouts were recorded and also witnessed in person by said judges.
Competing remotely brought on a new format as well. There would be two stages- the first stage would determine the top 10 (5 men and 5 women) who would then go on to compete in the second stage – in person at The Ranch in Aromas, California.
